Award-winning entrepreneur John van Leeuwen is CEO of Universal Matter, a company he cofounded with Dr. James Tour, professor of organic chemistry and nanotechnology at Rice University. John is also the cofounder of Cobionix, a collaborative robotics and artificial intelligence company. For more than 10 years prior, John led EcoSynthetix, a company he also cofounded that became a recognized leader in renewable chemicals. John’s acquaintance with Reasons to Believe (RTB) began with the Alaska Cruise Conference in 2011, and his involvement has deepened since then.

John and his wife, Jennifer, raised three children before her death from mesothelioma. Now, two more young adult children have joined the family with his marriage to Cheryl. All five live in the Toronto area, where John also serves on the board of RTB Canada, Universal Matter, Cobionix, and Nanorobotics.
